A road-legal Irish plate is more than the right characters. The dimensions, spacing and materials are set out in the official Irish specification. Every plate we print follows it, which is what an NCT inspector or a Garda at a checkpoint is checking for.

Reading an Irish reg
Irish registrations read year code, county code, then sequence number.

How much are number plates in Ireland?

Are your number plates road-legal?

Yes. Every plate is 520mm × 110mm (standard car size), printed to the official Irish specification used for NCT checks: black characters on white retroreflective sheet, 70mm character height, 10mm stroke width, correct spacing, the Irish-language county name along the top and the EU band with IRL.
How fast do Irish number plates arrive?

Order before 4pm Monday to Thursday, or before 3pm on Friday, and your plates are printed and posted the same working day by tracked post, typically arriving in 1-2 working days anywhere in Ireland.
What information do I need to order?

Just your registration exactly as it appears on your vehicle registration certificate, the year code, county code and numerals, for example 262-D-123. No documents are needed to order.
Can I get a personalised or private reg in Ireland?

No. Ireland does not issue personalised or private registrations. Your reg is assigned when the vehicle is registered and cannot be chosen or transferred.
Do I need a front and a rear plate?

Irish law requires a plate at the front and the rear of the vehicle. Most drivers order the €29 matched pair.
